Wells
Because this well-preserved little town has a cathedral, it can be called a city. Itâs Englandâs smallest cathedral city (pop. 9,400), with one of its most interesting cathedrals and a wonderful evensong service (generally not offered July-Aug). Wells has more medieval buildings still doing what they were originally built to do than any town youâll visit. Market day fills the town square on Wednesday (farmersâ market) and Saturday (general goods).
